KENYON — The second of Kenyon’s two full-time patrol officers is resigning. His last day is Friday.
Jeff Burbank, with the Kenyon force just over two years, is taking a job with the city of Red Wing’s police department.
“I hate to see him go,” said Kenyon Police Chef Lee Sjolander said. “Yet, it’s good when you see them want to advance by taking a job on a larger force.”
Kenyon’s other full-time officer, Josh Hanson, resigned in September and took a job with the Goodhue County Sheriff Department.
“We begin interviews Friday of applicants who’ve applied (for Hanson’s position),” Sjolander said.

Burbank’s position can also be filled by the applicants who applied for Hanson’s position, he said.
A larger police department, such as Red Wing with a population of 17,000, pays better and has more advancement opportunities, Sjolander said.
“It’s understandable when an officer leaves to advance his pay and opportunities,” Sjolander said.
And, it is lucky for him that Kenyon has six part-time police officers in its ranks, he said.
Those part-time officers will receive more hours patrolling Kenyon’s streets until the full-time officer positions are filled, the police chief said.
Sjolander is hoping to have at least one full-time officer hired by December.
“A few of my part-time staff have applied (for Hanson’s position),” Sjolander said. “Should they be selected for the position, it would take less time to get them on board because they’ve already been through a background checks and a few other things someone new to the department must go through before being hired.”
