To the Editor,
Souper Bowl of Caring is Feb. 7, 2010!
More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:
“Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.”
This simple prayer, delivered by a seminary intern serving at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C., gave birth to an idea. Why not ask parishioners to give $1 each for the needy as they leave worship on Super Bowl Sunday? Young people could receive the donations then send every dollar directly to the charity of their choice.
Since that day, more than $60 million has been raised for local charities across the country through the Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that is transforming Super Bowl weekend into the nation’s largest youth-led weekend of giving and serving. Why not join the team? Be a part of this movement that is sharing God’s love with those in need. At your place of worship donate as little as $1 to help hungry and hurting people around the world. Remember to give generously out of your abundance.
Thank you!
