Chad Lexvold gets his chance
Email Print
Watching Chad Lexvold jump for joy was quite the sight on Friday.

And after what the Kenyon-Wanamingo senior wrestler has been through this season, who can blame him?

A concussion and broken hand earlier in the year nearly ended Lexvold’s high school wrestling career. But with a win Friday in the Class A state semifinals, Lexvold advanced to Saturday’s championship match.

After beating Badger/Greenbush-Middle River’s Skylar Price by a 7-5 decision at 125 pounds, Lexvold celebrated by jumping up and down, seemingly reaching the Xcel Energy Center rafters.

“I can’t explain it. I truly can’t,” Lexvold said after his match, smiling from ear to ear. “I think it makes it even more emotional just because I thought my year was over after the two injuries.”

Great stories were easy to find Friday at the state wrestling tournament. In fact, Chad wasn’t the only intriguing story line among K-W wrestlers: his twin brother Drew and younger brother Mitchel also advanced to the championship matches in their respective weight classes.

Still, it was tough to find anyone more elated than Chad Lexvold. He saw his older brother Nathan win state in 2008. He saw his twin Drew win it last year. Now, it’s Chad’s turn — even if he never thought he’d get the chance.

“To find myself here in the finals is unbelievable,” Chad said. “My older brother was there. My twin brother was there last year. My last possible chance was tonight. I made it. I’m in the finals.”
